Rochester has long paid heartfelt tribute for the public spirit which has never faltered and for the stainless honor which has jealously guarded the countless trusts confided to his care; but it is the sweet personality of the man, the kind heart which never knew an ungenerous throb that will hold the chief and tenderest places in memory. A high-minded Christian gentleman in every fibre of his being, of the type that makes the world better for their living; strong in his own conceptions of right as he was tolerant of weaknesses in others. His nature was as sweet as the flowers he loved so well, and he goes to his last rest "wearing the white rose of a blameless life."
