Fifth Generation



The only child of (161) Samuel5 and Sarah (Brown) Perkins was:

AMOS5 PERKINS, son of (83) Amos4 [(23) Lt. Daniel3, (5) David2, (1) Edward1], was born in New Haven November 21, 1746; married, June 10, 1772, Abiah Downes, who was born November 3, 1752, and died in Woodbridge December 30, 1823. Administration upon the estate of Abiah, widow of Capt. Amos Perkins, was granted to Samuel Perkins May 22, 1824.

May 9, 1782, for £25, he deeded from Daniel Thompson six acres in the parish of Amity, seventh division, bounded on said Amos, Elijah Perkins, Isaac Ford and Thomas Perkins.

October 26, 1795, he and Thaddeus Thompson of Woodbridge sold to Chauncey and Thaddeus Alling 1½ acres of salt meadow in the Clubb, bounded on the creek, etc., which belonged to Deacon Perkins.

Capt. Amos, as he was usually styled, for a number of years was town clerk of the town of Woodbridge from the date of its incorporation in 1784.

According to the U. S. Census of 1790, at that time the family of Amos Perkins, 2nd (Jr.?), consisted of one male of 16 and upwards, four males under 16, and two females.

He made his will February 22, 1819, in his 73rd year, as he expresses it. He names his wife Abiah and children Samuel, Amos, James, William and Eunice, wife of Stephen Peck, Jr. Sons Samuel and James were the executors.

He says that "Whereas, my son William is not capable of taking care of himself, I appoint my son James his guardian or trustee."

Then occurs the following language in form somewhat of a petition concerning his brother Silas: "Now, whereas my father Amos, late of Woodbridge, died intestate, and
